The 7th BDS/IDS Conference took place in the lecture hall of the Physical Institute of the University of Leipzig, which is located close to the town center.
Leipzig is well known for its tradition in culture, trade (Leipzig Fair), and industry. J. S. Bach lived and served as a cantor at the St. Thomas church in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. The University was founded in 1409. Researchers and poets of the calibre of G. W. Leibniz and J. W. Goethe studied here. In the 1930s, P. Debye, G. Hertz, and W. Heisenberg headed the Institute of Physics at the University of Leipzig. The picture shows Peter Debye as the Director of the Institute of Experimental Physics (University of Leipzig, 1927-1934).
In 1912 the Debye formula was published for the first time (Phys. Zeitschr. 13,97 (1912)). The conference in Leipzig is a splendid occasion to celebrate its 100. anniversary.
