The 2nd BDS/IDS Conference took place in the lecture hall of the Physical Institute of the University of Leipzig, which is located close to the town center.
Leipzig is well known for its tradition in culture, trade (Leipzig Fair) and industry. J. S. Bach lived and acted as a cantor at the Thomas church in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. The university was founded in 1409. Researchers and artists of the rank of G. W. Leibnitz and J. W. Goethe studied here. In the 1930s P. Debye, G. Hertz and W. Heisenberg headed the Physical Institute.
